Updates

- EA miss July release

straight from the MGS newsletter:
//A few months ago Electronic Arts announced it would be bring several new titles to the Mac including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Command & Conquer 3, Battlefield 2142, Need for Speed: Carbon, Madden NFL 2008, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. Unfortunately due to various delays, the games are not available yet. We have, however, learned that two of these games have gone gold and will be shipping shortly.

Now the bad part. It looks like EA has, in its infinite wisdom, decided to grant Apple a 3 month exclusive deal on their first four titles. This means that only Apple stores will be carrying EA's titles for the first 90 days.//
MGS will still offer these titles, if this holds, but at a premium…

-Ryan Gordon has major hair surgery

if you go over to his blog ( http://icculus.org/cgi-bin/finger/finger.pl?user=icculus ) you will discover Ryan Gordon's rather drastic transformation. In a surprising move, Ryan Gordon has ceased to look like a person of Biblical proportions, and now looks more like your average joe.
How does this bode for all things Mac gaming? Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War? will he suffer a sudden Samson-esque relapse and be unable to code?

updates as they happen.

-Quake 4 Updated

Quake 4 gets updated to 1.4.2 bringing it back into contention with the PC version, and in addition to a plethora of bug fixes, the patch also offers some pretty big performance improvements on the mac… according to the forums…

-Avernum 5: Chitrach Hordes, Beta Coming Soon

In a post on the Spiderweb Software forums Jeff Vogel recently offered a new update on the changes and additions fans can expect in the upcoming fifth game in the popular Avernum RPG series.

The world is over half done. I plan to start the beta-testing very soon. It is still looking possible for my desired November release.

-The Late Call: Engine Update & Interview

Previously, The Late Call utilized the 1.x codebase of Unity, but after discussion with OTEE, it became clear that porting the game to their soon-to-be-released v2 engine is definitely worth the time.

The upside is that The Late Call will look better & play faster on many more machines (even many older machines). The downside is that it will take a little longer to wrap it up. We continue to target a Summer release, though the game likely won't be available before the end of August.

- Quake Wars Public Beta 2 released at QCon.

opinions?
Aspyr Media is still working on the mac version of this game, and will obviously endeavour to get it out as close to the PC version as possible… which is set for release in October 2007…

-James Cousins

Love your show guys,
Do you record it in the mornings or afternoons? Sometimes you seem half asleep, especially Stephen. Although you are all still quite hilarious.
You should be nicer to Michael Yarro-whatever, he probably cries himself to sleep at night.
